We are so excited to bring you a brand new series here on the MEC blog! Over the coming weeks, we are going to feature a MEC graduate and all of their wonderful accomplishments since they completed the program.  Today we will be featuring a student working right here in Williamsburg!

Lauren Speight graduated from the Dental Assisting Program in our Fall 2013 class.  During her 11 weeks with us, it was evident that Lauren had a true passion for the dental field. She came in with the goal of becoming a hygienist after completing our program, but decided that Dental Assisting was more exciting than she had ever thought and put her plans for hygiene school on hold; just for now. Lauren caught on very quickly during class and internship, so it was no surprise to hear that soon after graduation, Lauren was offered a position with Dr. Oglesby of Williamsburg Cosmetic Dentistry.

During our recent interview with Dr. Oglesby and Lauren, we talked quite a bit about the internship and how valuable the hands on experience is for both our students and their future employers. Not only did Lauren feel prepared to perform many of the tasks asked of her, but Dr. Oglesby felt as though her solid background and knowledge was a tremendous asset during the training process. In addition, Lauren thought the mock interviews and resume writing tips really helped boost her confidence during her job search and would recommend that future students take advantage of those services that MEC provides.

As Dr. Oglesby’s assistant, Lauren has truly grown and built upon her knowledge of the dental field. She has started to perfect her impression technique and has begun making temporaries as well. She still hopes to become a dental hygienist in the future, but is very happy as a dental assistant and would like to continue to grow and perfect her skills.

We are so proud of Lauren and all of her accomplishments and wish her all the best as she continues to grow in the field of dentistry!  Way to go Lauren!
